FOUNDER
Padma Bhusan Dr. RM. Alagappa Chettiar, was eminent philanthropist, industrialist, and educationist, firmly believed that education is vital for shaping individuals into productive, well-rounded, and compassionate members of society. He transformed the concept of philanthropy and made profound contributions to the development of Tamilnadu.
- Born as a second son on April 6, 1909, to Ramanathan chettiar and Umayal Achi in Kottaiyur, Sivaganga District, Tamil Nadu.
- Received his early education at SMS Vidyasala in Karaikudi.
- Obtained an M.A. degree from Presidency College, Madras.
- Became the first Indian trainee at the Chartered Bank in London.
- Qualified for the bar at Middle Temple in England.
Dr. Alagappa Chettiar established the Alagappa Model School in Karaikudi to serve as a practical training ground for teachers being trained at his teacher training college. It was conceived as a "laboratory" for the teacher training program, providing a real-world environment for aspiring educators to hone their skill.

GOVERNANCE
Alagappa Model Higher Secondary School was started on 04th July 1951 to serve as a Laboratory to the Alagappa University College of Education to train B.Ed. Students. The school is a Government Aided school with the teachers salary grant from the Government of Tamilnadu.
An eight- member committee is constituted by the Government to look after the functioning of the school. It is the only school in India managed and functioning under University Administration.
The school is situated within the Alagappa University campus and the maintenance and infrastructure development are taken care by the Alagappa University administration.
The curriculum and academic activities are administered by Tamilnadu higher secondary school education department and officiated by CEO sivaganga.
